RCIA: T's Faith Journey

Greetings!

At Mass tonight, we picked up this week's church bulletin to see my husband's Medjugorje conversion story in print. He too is a member of our prayer group. I'd like to share it -- with his permission -- with you, my prayer family as his story is yet another extension of Mother Mary's reach:

MY FAITH JOURNEY

T and our "dog-kids"

"Raised a Buddhist and trained as a scientist, I see my Catholic conversion as a miracle. Years ago, my wife's Christian faith planted the seeds of my conversion. D is one who waits on and listens to God's inner promptings and then acts on them. During our thirty years of marriage, I have witnessed and shared in the fruits of her faith, which sprouted my faith and acceptance of God and Jesus.

Admittedly, however, my Christian faith has been slow to bloom. Prayer was something I engaged in only on occasion. This all changed when D received an inner, clarion call to take a journey of faith to Medjugorje, a Catholic pilgrimage site in the former Yugoslavia. She heeded the call and I accompanied her on what was to become our most enjoyed and life-altering trip ever.

I was immediately moved by the sense of peace that pervades there and especially impressed by the villagers of Medjugorje. Their lifestyle is unostentatiously simple, but their lives are full, joyful and spiritually rich. And indeed, Mother Mary is said to have picked this place as the site of her apparitions for the last 23 years because of their strong and abiding faith. That faith must be contagious as within two days, I was converted in my heart and began conversion into the Catholic Church.

I came to the clear realization that being close to God is what matters most in life. Daily, we prayed the Rosary and attended Mass, but we were not able to participate in two of the most magnanimous privileges from God, reserved for Catholics only: the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion.

Yes, our nine-day immersion in Catholicism resulted in a new experience for me: I was truly awakened by the Holy Spirit. We returned on fire and we visited several parishes. During one of Fr. Johnny's first days at Holy Family, the Holy Spirit led us to Sunday Mass here. Delivered with a refreshing and humble demeanor, Fr. Johnny's homily spoke to our hearts. We knew then that we had been led to our parish home. Everything then fell into place. From the bulletin, we learned that the RCIA class was open for enrollment. Monday evenings worked perfectly with our all-too-busy schedules. The next day, we were warmly and graciously welcomed into the class by RCIA leaders.

With stimulating, thought-provoking discussions in a safe, non-threatening environment, these RCIA classes have been a joy for us to attend. Our Sunday Mass dismissals have been as meaningful, as they allow each of us to share our thoughts and interpretations of the day's homily and relate them to our daily lives. Our dedicated leaders and staff are extremely helpful in teaching us Scripture in a very palatable way, while creating a sense of family among us. For my wife and me, our journey in faith continues in RCIA. We are taking our baby steps, as they say, on our way to the Holy Sacraments and ultimately, Home, where we will one day live forever with Our Holy Family, God willing." ~ T

I shall ever be grateful to St. Joseph and Mother Mary for they were instrumental in leading my husband to their Son, Jesus, in Medjugorje. It is a VERY powerful place of conversion.

A joyous third week of Advent to all of you. Your continued prayers for our faith journey and for all converts in RCIA programs throughout the world are much appreciated. My husband and I thank you.

God bless you.

In God's Light,

In the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
